Bio - Mike Morrell - Big Digital, LLC Creative Director
Videographer, photographer and creative director F. Michael Morrell is the driving force behind Big Digital LLC. At the tender age of 10, Mike founded MKM Productions in 1973, a loosely formed group of like-minded aspiring (very) young filmmakers. Mike, under the auspices of MKM, produced several short films in the 70’s including the acclaimed “Snowchase” series. Mike filmed his first wedding at the age of 16 and has been shooting weddings ever since. He maintains a passion for storytelling, imagery and the art of video and photography.
After graduating from Florida Tech in 1985 with a Bachelors of Science degree, he took a position at Benefit Services Corporation in Atlanta where he eventually became the Vice President of Information Technology and Operations. He oversaw a staff of over 50 full-time employees and had annual budgets in excess of 4 million dollars while with BSC, a subsidiary of MetLife. In 2001, he decided to devote his efforts to his passion for video and work full time producing wedding and other videos.
In 2002, Mike began producing videos with a cinematic style. While continuing to formulate his approach to “Cinematic Video”,he started incorporating high-resolution digital still photographs into all of his videos, thus introducing his version of “Cinematic Video”. In 2003, he started Big Digital LLC after officially ending is long career at BSC. Also in 2003, Mike also became a member of WEVA (Wedding and Events Videographer Association).
Mr. Morrell continues to take full advantage of the learning opportunities available through WEVA, the leading wedding Videographer association in the US by attending local and nationally sponsored WEVA conferences. He also spends countless hours on continual training through his active memberships with PPA and NAPP.
In 2004, Mike added youth sports action photography to his arsenal of imaging services he provides for Big Digital. Mike specializes in large format prints, 8x10” to 16x20”, which are all printed at the Big Digital studio. Mike has also taken on location portrait photography and corporate photography and videography. Some of Mike’s photos have even been published New York Times’ owned newspapers and other periodicals. Mike has taken action photographs of many professional sports athletes, including Dale Murphy, Phil Neikro and Chipper Jones. Recently, he has produced videos for BodyBlocks N-Motion energy products, which featured the famed five time gold medal Olympian, Michael Johnson. He also covered the N-Motion product launch with Mr. Johnson as a photographer.
Mike Morrell also donates his skills to charitable organizations and events. He covered Z93’s "Shopping for Soldiers” event to benefit American troops fighting in Iraq in 2003. Mr. Morrell sits on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Counseling Network and helps bring to life GCN’s work of serving at risk youth and their families through his videos and still photographs. In 2005, Mr. Morrell donated his time and skills to the Dekalb Medical Center Foundation's fund-raising video. The video he produced has helped to raise over $5,000,000 for DMCF's fund to serve the medical needs of Dekalb County citizens who might go without treatment or assistance if it were not for the efforts of DMCF and their supporters.
